THERE’S SURFACE RETARDERS & THERE’S SURFACE RETARDERS, BUT THERE’S NOTHING LIKE SHUTTERSTRIP

ShutterStrip Construction Joint Film

Is a surface retarder that is a non-toxic water-soluble film that contains organic retarder for concrete, with an adhesive back that allows the film to be easily attached to any area of a formwork shutter that is requiring an exposed aggregate for a keyed construction joint or for decorative purposes.

During the process of pouring or pumping concrete into the formwork and once the concrete has rested/settled against the construction joint film, the film will slowly start to dissolve retarding and de-activating the setting process of the concrete laitance.

Once the formwork is struck, the film will be evenly distributed, leaving a visible uniform depth of 3mm-5mm of deactivated concrete laitance that is easily removed by jet washing the surface.

Why use Shutterstrip SURFACE RETARDER?

ShutterStrip offers substantial flexibility when compared to other methods used today due to its working life.

The laitance can be removed, and the aggregate can be exposed over a longer period of time. For example, on a typical pour, the shutter is usually struck 24 hours after concreting. Using ShutterStrip, on a typical pour, the aggregate can be exposed up to 72 hours after concreting, with the shutter removed after 24 hours. For larger complex pours that can’t be struck until the concrete has reached the required compressive strength, the laitance can still be removed up to 7 days after concreting if kept in the shutter.

By using ShutterStrip Construction joint film, you are creating the perfect uniformed construction/keyed joint of 3mm to 5mm depth, avoiding all the mess, dangers, and uncertainty associated with the methods used today. ShutterStrip mitigates the need for vibrating tools, thus not exposing operatives to (HAVS) Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome or Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS). The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) categorises scabbling as HIGH RISK.

Construction joint film is also ideal for adding decorative effects to a concrete wall, such as an exposed rebated band or numbers and lettering. The film is designed to be easily cut and shaped.

ShutterStrip is available in 5m² and 10m² packs.

A single unit is available as a 500mm x 500mm tile; larger sizes are available if pre-ordered. Construction joint film is protected with a removable top liner and has a back adhesive layer covered with a back liner to paste the film on the formwork/shutter.

ShutterStrip Construction joint film is manufactured to ISO 9001: 2008 standards and complies with CE regulations. CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS REGULATION (CPR) – No 305/2011
